The Colonial Athletic Association has named Maine defensive end Trevor Bates the defensive player of the week for his efforts in the Black Bears’ 23-10 victory over Stony Brook. The senior from Westbrook had seven tackles, two for losses, 1.5 sacks, and returned a fumble for a key Maine touchdown. Bates is the second Black Bear to receive the honor, after fellow lineman Pat Ricard was selected for his performance at Albany.
Maine is 3-4 on the season but 3-1 in the CAA, which has them tied for third place in the league. The Black Bears have a crucial game this Saturday night in Philadelphia, as they battle the Villanova Wildcats.
